Clifton Central 7-on-7 & Lineman Challenge 2023: Comets, Bishop McNamara, Coal City & More! (2026)

Clifton Central's 17th Annual 7-on-7 and Lineman Challenge: A Showcase of Football Talent and Team Spirit

The 17th annual Clifton Central 7-on-7 and Lineman Challenge was a bustling affair, with 15 varsity football teams participating and the host Comets taking center stage. Head coach Jeff Perzee's strategy of maximizing reps for the team's sophomore quarterback, Cash Minard, was evident as they played in all seven time slots from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This pivotal summer follows a successful 9-2 season, and Minard's transition from Brady Shule, who set program records, is a key focus.

The Comets' offensive prowess is supported by the return of Derek Meier, Kaden Neveu, and Andrew Rohlwing, the top three receivers from last year. Meier acknowledges the importance of his role as a verbal leader, setting an example for the younger players. Meanwhile, Bishop McNamara, led by the Fightin' Irish, is also gearing up for a strong 2025 campaign after an unbeaten regular season in 2024, their first since 1998.

The Irish's success is attributed to the leadership of incoming seniors like Malachi Lee, the top returning rusher, who is also connected to his brother Micah, the new quarterback. Coal City, on the other hand, is aiming to dethrone Wilmington, their conference rival, with a strong lineup including starting quarterback Connor Henline, leading rusher Logan Natyshok, and standout lineman Emmett Easton.

The Lineman Challenge, a unique event featuring weight lifting, tire flipping, relays, and tug of war, added an extra layer of competition. Bradley-Bourbonnais emerged victorious, showcasing the strength of their experienced offensive line, anchored by seniors Tyrell Berry and Kolten Byrne. Manteno, however, faces a challenge as they seek a new starting quarterback after Connor Harrod's departure, with Logan Bufford and Carter Stell stepping up for their first reps against a live defense.

This annual event not only highlights the football skills of the players but also fosters team spirit and camaraderie, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
